Animals of Ecuador

This corner is for animals that I have seen here, all animals, all the time. Well, and maybe some bugs, too.

The sign said crocodile, but he looks like an alligator to me. I certainly wasn't going to ask!

He was a friendly little guy.

Sloth in Spanish is oso perezoso, which literally means lazy bear.

They have raccoons here, just like back home. But these raccoons don't have a striped tail.

Llama

Out in the country, most people have roosters, sheep and even pigs.

This baby vicuña lives high atop Chimborazo.

There are dogs in the streets everywhere here.

This was someone's pet, and I met them at the grocery store! Do you take your pets to the grocery store?

This boy has a pet llama! What kind of pet do you have?

This rooster was talking to me, but I have no idea what he was saying. I speak English, Spanish and Duck, but not Rooster.

This is Lonesome George. He is a Pinta Island turtle, and it is believed he is the very last one of his kind. That turtle is almost extinct, which means there are no more left in the world, anywhere.

These Giant Tortoises from Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos, are cooling off in their pond.

This is a land iguana. They eat cactus leaves, but their arms aren't strong enough to climb, so they wait for them to fall on the ground.

Aren't his colors cool?

This marine iguana looks like a dinosaur!

I love the tracks that this marine iguana made in the sand.

A heron flies over my head.

This colorful guy is a sayapa crab. They are black when they are little, red when they are teenagers, and orange when they are grown up.

I was so excited to talk to this guy, that I forgot to get his name. He's cool, though.

This sea lion is ready for some sleep after a long night of hunting.

The sea lions are really cute!

Just hanging out with some new friends.
